Jeju International Airport (CJU) is the 2nd largest international airport in South Korea. Located in the city of Jeju, it serves both domestic and international flights. This is the only civil airport in Jeju. There are various airlines that offer flights from Hong Kong to Jeju, including Air Busan, Air China, Asiana, China Eastern, China Southern and Korean Air.
The airport is located 24 miles from the Seogwipo, center of Jeju Island. An average taxi ride from the airport to Jeju city center should cost about 150 HKD. Hong Kong citizens can enter and remain in South Korea without a visa for 90 days, given that their passports have a minimum validity of 6 months.
One of the 9 provinces of South Korea, Jeju city is located on the island of Jeju. It is a famous tourist spot thanks to the beautiful nature and beaches. The island is also known for its sports facilities, such as horse farms, golf courses, hunting grounds, fishing pools and trekking tracks. Hallasan Mountain: Being a shield volcano that initiates the formation of Jeju island, Hallasan is locally regarded as Jeju Island itself. The Hallasan is the tallest mountain in South Korea. Surrounding this volcano is the Hallasan National Park. It is home to Gwaneumsa, the oldest Buddhist temple on the island.
Cheonjeyeon Waterfall: In Korean, Cheonjiyeon means “Pond of the Emperor of Heaven”. This is a famous three-tier waterfall that is surrounded by a warm forest. During the month of May of even-numbered years, the Seven Nymphs Festival (Chilseonyeo) is organised here. This is one of the 3 well-known waterfalls in Jeju; the other two are Cheonjiyeon Waterfall and Jeongbang Waterfall.
Manjanggul Lava Tube: It is one of the longest lava tubes in the world. Highly regarded for its scientific and heritage values, the tube excellently preserves the formation of its insides. This is also home to more than 30000 bats, the largest known bat community in Korea.
Jeju enjoys mild coastal climate with minimum temperature falling slightly below 0 °C. Summer runs from July to September, when the temperature averaging about 26 °C. The autumn here is warm and dry, with a cooler temperature. Winter occasionally observes snowfall. The most pleasant season is probably spring, when there is much warmness and flowers start blooming. The island is generally windy throughout the year, though much less during summer. Jeju is, in fact, a good place to visit all year round, since there is always something going on during each season. Depending on your interest, you may want to visit the island during summer for swimming and water activities. Alternatively, you can visit Jeju in the spring to enjoy the flower blooming.
