Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport, takes its name from I Gusti Ngurah Rai, an Indonesian republican who fought against the Dutch during the Indonesian Revolution in 1946. The airport is more commonly referred to as Bali Denpasar International Airport and is located 13 km south of the provincial capital city of Denspasar in southern Bali.

Denpasar International Airport is the 3rd busiest airport in Indonesia after Jakarta's Soekarno–Hatta International Airport and Surabaya's Juanda International Airport. It is conveniently located near the tourist regions of Bali and is approximately 30 minutes away from Denpasar. Being a gateway to world-famous resort destinations, it is a major travel hub with numerous connections to various parts of Australia, South-East Asia, and the rest of Indonesia. The airport is well-served by several public transport options. Most hotels and resorts offer free shuttle services. Taxis are also plentiful. You can choose from metered or pre-paid taxi services. It is also possible to catch a minivan, locally known as bemo, just outside the airport. If you are travelling light and looking for a cheaper alternative, the Trans Sarbagita bus service also stops just outside the airport.
