Yogyakarta International Airport is a public military airport that is owned by the Indonesian government. It serves the city of Yogyakarta which is situated on the Island of Java. The airport has two runways; one paved with Asphalt and the other paved with glass. The airport is approximately 6 kilometres from the city centre. It has two terminals; A and B. Terminal B handles most of the International flights while terminal A majorly handles the domestic flights.
The airport is served by a variety of ground transportation services. Shuttle services exist from the airport to various destinations. The prices range from IDR 50,000 to IDR 85,000 depending on the destination from the airport. Private car and taxi services are also available at the airport with spacious parking for both cars and motorcycles. The airport is connected by rail to the Maguwo train station.
About the city
Yogyakarta is a city in the Island of Java, Indonesia. It was the capital city of Indonesia during the Indonesian National Revolution but as Indonesia grew it became the capital city of Yogyakarta special region. The name of the city originates from Ayodhya, the Indian city in Ramayana epic. Yogya means ‘fit’ while karta means ‘prospering’. Yogyakarta’s climate can be described as a tropical wet and dry type of climate with the wettest month being January and the driest month being August. The hottest month is April so carry light clothing if you are visiting Yogyakarta during this month.

Thousands of tourists’ travel every year to Yogyakarta just to see the biggest Buddhist temple; Borobudur temple. The temple is magnificent in stature and is also in the UNESCO world heritage list. The art ranges from gold and gems, unique souvenirs, beautiful accessories to household appliances. It is a fun hunting place for souvenir fans and is usually inexpensive. The Prambanan temple is also an enchanting place to visit. The beautiful temple offers you a serene place to meditate. You should not leave the temple before watching the sunset from the temple. The view is breath-taking. If you love the beach, then Yogyakarta has not forgotten you. Parangtritis beach is a beautiful beach where you can swim and play with the sand.

Visit the Kalibiru national park where you will rock climb and enjoy an amazing view of the surroundings from the very top of the mountain. You probably think that sand dunes are only seen in Africa. Well, that’s not true. You do not need to travel to Africa to see the dunes. Visit Gumuk Pasir Parangkusumo and enjoy as the sand runs through your toes. You can also try out sand boarding and have a new experience to write home about.
