Classified as a world city, Perth is highly regarded as one of the world’s most ideal cities to live in. It is also known as the “City of Light”, for Perth residents once lit their house lights and streetlights to celebrate the American astronaut John Glenn when he was orbiting around the Earth in 1962. Home to many amazing architecture and heritages, as well as bustling nightlife and street activities, Perth welcomes millions of visitors every year. The city is also home to a variety of cultural centers and museums. Some renowned tourist spots in Perth are:
Murray Street: One of the four main roads in the Central Business District of Perth, this street is lined with many popular shops and shopping malls. Perth’s biggest and most famous shopping mall, The Hay Street & Murray Street Malls, is located within this area.
Fremantle: Famous for its well-preserved buildings that pose some of the most spectacular architecture designs, this is an area in Perth that houses many culturally important buildings. The Western Australian Maritime Museum and the Army Museum of Western Australia are both located here. This area is also home to many famous buildings, such as the Fremantle Prison, the Fremantle Town Hall and the Round House, the oldest standing building in Western Australia.
Scitech Discovery Center: Organising several interactive science exhibitions annually, the center’s mission is to educate its visitors on the subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Perth is sunny throughout the year, with an average of nearly 9 hours of sunlight every day. It is, in fact, the sunniest capital city in Australia. Summers in particular are hot and dry, running from December to March. The hottest month is usually February. Short thunderstorms occasionally happen. Interestingly, on many summer afternoons, a sea breeze known locally as the “Fremantle Doctor” passes through the city, hence reducing the heat. Winters are wet and cool, and rain season runs from May to September. Temperature falling below freezing point is extremely rare. We recommend that you visit the city between March and May to enjoy the moderate sunlight and avoid the rains.
