QantasLink, the regional brand of Qantas, consists of a group of airlines that operate flights within Australia only. Airlink, Eastern Australia Airlines, and Sunstate Airlines are the three regional airlines that operate under the

QantasLink brand. QantasLink is the biggest regional airline in Australia, with a combined total of approximately 2000 flights every week to over 58 cities. QantasLink is also a member of the OneWorld Alliance frequent flyer program.

From the passenger’s point of view, QantasLink is essentially the same as Qantas. All QantasLink flights are booked through the main website, with certain flights labelled as operated by QantasLink. QantasLink also shares the same Facebook and Twitter pages as Qantas. Qantas also has an application available for both Apple and Android devices.

Online Booking

Flight bookings are made through the Qantas website. Passengers can simply enter their departure and arrival destinations, and the website will generate a list of possible flights. If the flight is operated by QantasLink, this will be indicated on the search page. The Qantas website allows booking of not only flights, but also hotels and car rentals. Once the booking has been made, the records can be assessed through the ‘Manage booking’ function.

The QantasLink fleet consists of 68 aircrafts, of which 18 are Boeing 717-200s. These planes have economy seats with 18-inch width and 31-inch pitch. The Business Class seats are recliners with 20-inch width and 37-inch pitch. The fleet also consists of three types of Bombardier Dash 8 planes with different seating capacities – 3 are Dash 8-200s (36 economy seats), 16 are Dash 8-Q300s (50 economy seats), and 31 are Dash 8-Q400s (74 economy seats). These seats generally have a 17-inch width, and 31-inch pitch.

Online and Mobile Check-In

Online check-in is available on the website. Passengers will need to enter their booking reference number and last name to check if they are eligible for online check-in. Generally, online check-in is available 30 minutes to 24 hours before the departure time. Do remember to print out the boarding pass and bring it to the airport. For passengers with check-in baggage, these still need to be dropped off at least 30 minutes before departure (for domestic flights). Mobile check-in is only available for domestic flights within Australia, and not for international flights.

Baggage Allowances

All QantasLink flights include baggage allowance of one 23 kg baggage for economy class adults, or two 32 kg baggage for business class adults. There are some exceptions to baggage allowances depending on the aircraft you are flying on and the destination. For example, passengers on Dash 8 aircrafts to Lord Howe Island are only allowed one 14 kg baggage. Be sure to check your flight details to confirm the baggage allowance. In terms of carry-on baggage, standard rules apply. However, for Dash 8 aircrafts, due to their smaller size, only one bag with a maximum weight of 7 kg is allowed.

Service on Board

All QantasLink flights offer a meal or refreshment pack to passengers, depending on the length of journey. There is complimentary beer and wine after 4 pm. In addition, there are special meal options for the Boeing flights, and a vegetarian meal option for the Dash 8 flights. QantasLink does not offer in-flight entertainment, only newspapers and magazines.

Ticket Refund and Changing Policies

In general, Qantas and QantasLink do not offer cash refunds. However, in the event of a flight cancellation, passengers may be able to get credits for a future flight, depending on the fare conditions. Fare conditions are dependent on the departure and arrival locations, and the specific clauses can be found online. Qantas also has a Same Day No Mistake policy for selected countries, including Hong Kong. This allows passengers to make corrections to their booking before midnight of the day of purchase. For instance, passengers can change the time or date of flight, name, destination, or fare type, with no additional charge. For changes after midnight of the day of purchase, this may be done online through the ‘Manage your Booking’ page, or via the Qantas Contact Centre. Any changes are subject to additional charges.
