Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), also known as Bangkok International Airport, is a major international airport serving Bangkok, capital of Thailand. Opened for international flights since 2006, the airport is the main base of Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways and Orient Thai Airlines. The airport is also a vital gateway to other countries in the region and a busy cargo hub. It is located 16 miles east of downtown Bangkok. Suvarnabhumi Airport is the world’s 10th busiest airport, serving more than 50 million passengers annually. It is also the airport with tallest freestanding control tower in the world, which stands at 434 feet.

The airport has been under an expansion project that would be completed in 2016. With this expansion, the airport aims to handle up to 125 million passengers annually by 2024. Also, in 2012, it was decided that another satellite passenger terminal would be built. This new terminal will be linked to the main terminal building via an automated people mover (APM), and will further raise the passenger capacity of the airport.

There is only one single passenger terminal in Suvarnabhumi Airport, having 4 floor with different functions. The 1st floor is the bus lobby, the 2nd floor is for arrivals and the 4th floor is for departures. With its size of over 139 acres, it is currently the 4th-largest passenger terminal building in the world. In the terminal, there are a total of 360 check-in counters, and an addition of 100 check-in counters for passengers without luggage. The terminal is highly modern and well maintained, and is equipped with all the facilities that any traveler would need. At the present, more than 90 airlines have flights departing from this terminal.

There are various restaurants in the terminal that serve both Thai and international cuisines. In addition, various boutique shops that offer sales of global brands are present. Cafes and bars are also plentiful in this airport.

Many other facilities can be found in the airport. They include passenger lounge, transfer hall, handicapped facilities, children-friendly facilities, conference room, banks, money exchangers, telecommunication kiosks, free Internet and many more.
