Airport Information
Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport, also known simply as Tallinn Airport, is the largest international airport of Estonia. It is located about 5 kilometres from the downtown area of Tallinn, which is the capital city. In 2016, Tallinn Airport served over 2 million passengers. Its busiest routes are to other European cities such as Helsinki, Riga, Stockholm, London, and Copenhagen. Airlines that operate out of the airport include British Airways, Aeroflot, Ryanair, and Turkish Airlines, to name a few. Tallinn Airport is also a hub for Nordica, which is its busiest airline and the national carrier. There are connecting flights between Hong Kong and Tallinn on airlines such as Finnair, Aeroflot, SAS, and Air China, usually with at least one layover. Hong Kong passport holders need not apply for a visa if they are travelling for 90 days or less, out of 180 days allowed in the Schengen Area.
Terminal Information
The airport currently consists of one terminal building with 2 main levels. However, as passenger traffic is increasing rapidly, plans are underway to expand the current terminal and build a new one for low-cost carriers. Airline check-in counters and security check-points are located on Level 1. The departure gates and waiting areas are on Level 2. Tallinn Airport has all the facilities one might expect of a modern airport, such as self check-in kiosks, ATMs, currency exchange counters, information desks, and a number of car rental agencies (located on the ground floor of the terminal, Level 0). There are also numerous duty-free shopping options, and several shops selling local Estonian goods and souvenirs. In terms of dining options, Tallinn Airport features several cafés, wine bars, a restaurant, and even a Subway. All of these services are located on Level 1. The currency used in Estonia is the Euro, which has a prevailing exchange rate of €1 = HK$8.29.
