Flights to Krabi
Krabi International Airport is the main airport serving the province of Krabi, Thailand. With international and domestic flights to over 21 destinations worldwide, and an annual passenger flow of 2.7 million, Krabi Airport is one of the busiest airports in Thailand. There are two passenger terminals in Krabi Airport, an international terminal (Terminal 1) and a domestic terminal (Terminal 2), both located within walking distance of each other. Terminal 1 was recently opened in 2006 and consists of four floors, including the arrival area on the ground floor, and check-in terminals and a departure area on the second floor. Terminal 2 is a smaller building located right next to the international terminal that was recently refurbished. Krabi Airport has the basic amenities and facilities, including a few dining options, cafes, currency exchange services, ATMs, hotel and transport booking booths, and an airport lounge run by Thai Airways. Unfortunately, there is currently no duty free shopping for international passengers, so do make sure to finish all your shopping before going to the airport.
Krabi Airport is located approximately 15 km from the city center, Krabi Town, and 27 km from the popular Ao Nang Beach. It is located along the main highway Route 4, making it easily accessible for cars and buses. Only authorized taxis and public transport are allowed within the airport premises. The cheapest mode of transport is the airport bus service, which stops at various destinations in Krabi. Bus tickets must be purchased from booths within the airport. You will need to inform them of your hotel, pay for the bus ticket (90 – 150 baht per person, or HKD$20-33), and then wait along the bus bay for your bus to arrive. Buses only leave when there are enough passengers to fill them, and the journey takes about 1 hour. The bus drivers are informed of each passenger’s destination and will stop you near your hotel. Alternatively, you can take a pre-paid airport taxi, or hire a private car service such as Krabi Shuttle, which will cost more but will save you time. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes, and will cost 600 baht (HKD$130) for up to 4 people.
Located at the mouth of Krabi River and Phang Nga Bay in the southern tip of Thailand, Krabi is one of the most popular beach destinations in Southeast Asia. Ao Nang is the most popular area for tourists, with most of the restaurants, hotels, and nightlife being concentrated in this area. Within Ao Nang, almost everything is within walking distance and located along the long stretch of beach. A relatively less crowded and less touristy area to stay is Railay, also known as Rai Leh, which is a peninsula surrounded by ocean and mountains. As such, it is only accessible via longtail boat. Do note that most longtail boats in Krabi charge by a per boat cost of 1000 baht (HKD$216), and not by per person cost, so you will have to wait for other passengers to arrive in order to share the cost. Railay is famous for its pristine white beaches and clear blue waters, as well as a quieter and more laidback vibe compared to Ao Nang. Everything is accessible by foot and there are a wide variety of restaurants at different price points. Most people stay at Railay to go rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, or simply to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and beach views. Don’t expect the bustling night scene of Ao Nang, as most restaurants and bars close by 11pm.
