Flights to Taichung


Taichung is located in the west-central part of Taiwan. Taichung Airport, more commonly known as Taichung Ching Chuan Kang Airport, is located approximately 20 km from the city center, and is the only airport serving Taichung. It is the third and newest international airport in Taiwan, catering to both domestic and international flights. International airlines that fly to Taichung include China Airlines, Mandarin Airlines, EVA Air, HK Express, Dragonair, and several others. There are 2 terminals in Taichung Airport, one domestic and one international. Passengers waiting for their flight can relax at the ‘The More’ lounge, or use the Internet service terminals located on Level 3 of the departure hall. There is also a children’s playground and a cultural art gallery showing Taiwanese artwork. The currency used in Taiwan is the New Taiwan dollar (NT).

In contrast to Taipei, Taichung’s public transport network is not as extensive. However, bus services are very convenient and frequent, and is the easiest way to get around. Upon arrival at Taichung Airport, visitors can take buses 9, 69, 115, or 6885 to the city center for around NT$50-60 per person for a one-way trip. Do check with the information counter at Taichung Airport to confirm which bus will take you towards your destination. Buses operate from 6 am to 10 pm and will take approximately 45 minutes. A taxi ride to the city center will cost around NT$500-600. Within the city, the Taichung BRT Blue Line is a Bus Rapid transit with 21 stations operating between Taichung TRA Station and Providence University. For convenience, visitors might want to purchase an EasyCard which can be used for buses and trains across Taiwan, not only in Taichung. The EasyCard costs NT$500 and includes NT$400 in credit and NT$100 as a deposit. At the moment, the Taichung government is in the process of building up the Taichung Metro that is anticipated to begin operations in 2017.

Taichung is known for its pleasant climate, with the average temperature at a cool 23 degree Celsius. Like other parts of Taiwan, Taichung experiences a wet season from May to August which brings with it heavy rainfall and occasional flooding. The dry season is from October to February, where the weather is generally cooler compared to the summer months, with much lesser rain. Taichung will be an attractive destination for nature lovers and those wishing to have a more laidback alternative to Taipei. Like Taipei, Taichung has an abundance of night street markets, such as Fengjia night market, where you can have a tasting of local Taiwanese street food. Don’t forget to try the famous Taiwanese bubble tea and fried chicken cutlet! During the day, visitors can make their way to the National Museum of Natural Science and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, which are linked by The Parkway, a green corridor with lush greenery and shady spots perfect for a picnic. For nature lovers, there are numerous hiking trails suitable for every difficulty level. The most famous is the Dakeng hiking trails where you can catch breathtaking views of rolling hills and the local fauna.
