Hong Kong International Airport is located on the island of Chek Lap Kok, and can claim one of the largest passenger terminal buildings in the world. The airport has two terminals, T1 and T2. Both have extensive shopping and dining options. The two terminals are linked by a central access way, and covered walkways at both ends. It only takes two minutes to walk from one terminal to another.
Passengers, once they have completed check-in, can go through security and immigration at either terminal.
Passengers can check-in round the clock at Hong Kong International Airport. Those travelling from T1 can also use any of the 80+ self-check-in kiosks. Located in all areas of the terminal, these are available 24 hours prior to the scheduled flight time. They enable passengers with confirmed bookings to check in, select seats and collect boarding passes without queuing. All direct flights from Hong Kong International Airport to Changchun depart from T1.
What to expect in Changchun
Hong Kong (on Hong Kong Time) and Changchun (on China Standard Time) are in the same time zone. Neither city observesdaylight saving. Changchun’s climate is a humid continental one, heavily influenced by the monsoon. It has four distinct seasons, with large temperature variances throughout the year. Summers are warm and humid, July being seeing the highest temperatures, averaging 23.1 °C, though temperatures as high as 39.5°C have been recorded. This is the wettest part of the year, the East Asian Monsoon making June, July and August the months with the most rainfall. Autumns tend to be short and dry, and often windy, similar to the spring. Winters stretch from November to March and under the influence of the Siberian anticyclone are cold, windy and dry. Average temperatures in January are as low as −17.2 °C, the lowest temperature recorded being -39.8 °C. There is usually a covering of snow throughout the winter months.
The cost of living in Changchun is considerably lower than in Hong Kong. Eating out will be around 100% cheaper, grocery shopping not quite as marked, while transport, including taxi fares is around 600%cheaper. Accommodation is between 500% and 1500% cheaper.
