A must visit in one life time
Visiting the Acropolis can be quite overwhelming due to the large crowds of people both at the ticket counter and during the climb. The climb itself can be challenging with irregular steps and uneven walkways made of shiny marble. Additionally, some areas lack railings, making it unsafe in certain spots. To avoid the crowds and the heat, it is best to go in the morning or towards the end of the day. Be mindful of selfie-takers who tend to occupy space, making it difficult to move around.
As for the Temple of Olympian Zeus, there isn't much to see as the ruins are scattered on the ground, so buying tickets might not be worth it.
If you're looking for a place to shop, dine, or explore, the Plaka is an excellent option. With its quaint streets, it offers a variety of boutiques, shops, and restaurants to choose from.

Some Issues on the Athens Metro
This review is of the Athens Metro including of the Acropoli Metro Station. The Acropoli Metro Station is quite unique with replicas of artifacts including statues and friezes from the Acropolis on display. The subway system itself is somewhat limited with a north-south red line and an east-west blue line which intersect at the busy Syntagma Square Metro. However, it did allow me to get quickly from the Acropolis to Monastiraki Square and back with little cost. You can also get all the way out to Piraeus if needing to catch a ferry to the islands and this is significantly less expensive compared to a taxi. Pickpockets thrive on the subway so be aware at all times. I was also annoyed when the door on my train got jammed at the Acropoli Station and I couldn't get off at my stop forcing me to ride down another station and catch a train back to where I needed to get off.

Athens coastal tram for a quick glimpse of the city
The scenic tram takes off from the Syntagma square, and rides to the beaches of Glyfada and Voula with stops along the coast. It's a great way of experiencing the neighborhoods, life of locals, and getting the glimpse of the place in short time. One can get down and grab lunch at a sea side taverna.

Pick Pocket problem on Metro
After the arrival from the Athens international airport at 10am, we took the metro to the down town area. It was basically empty, but then it get too crowded after the midway to downtown. Before the arrival of the destination, I got up with two luggages to wait at the door, and there was a man who spoke in English about the road block for the marathon taking place that day, so the best way is to take metro, etc. It was a distraction, and he hold the metro door, so it could not be open wide. Other people were behind me to try to reach over and told me to push the door button. That is when they stole my wallet. I reported to the police at the metro station, and they suggested me to also report the pick pocket situation with the Tourist Police near by. The thief had try to use one of my card to purchase something with $3000+, but I had contact the bank on time to cancel those credit cards to prevent any illegal activities. I lost a few hundred dollars, credit cards and a driver license. What the thief told me was not wrong since me relative took the taxi at the same time without and road block issue. There were some foreign tourists were also at the Tourist Police station with the same problems. The metro is nice and convenient, but don’t use it if you have luggages and can not protect your belongings as described.

Robbery
This is not a 'cool' holiday experience, quite the opposite. I'm writing this as a warning to others, on the Athens Metro going to the Acropolis a man started leaning on me from the left, I moved to the right in the crowded train again he came on, I twigged and swing my right hand to my cargo shorts pocket (buttoned up); his hand was there - a pickpocket!! Fortunately he failed to get my wallet, he ran out at the next station before we could do anything. I checked my right-hand cargo shorts pocket to find our passports had been taken! Obviously, in hind sight he was the diversion and his accomplice on my right did the business. This was half-way through our holiday and the rest was taken up obtaining emergency passports (100GBP each) from the British Consulate (who were very good) in Athens.
Apparently this is not an uncommon story for all major tourist centres!
