An Unforgettable Stay at Calilo
Our stay at Calilo was, without question, one of the best vacations of my life.
The photos and videos on the website are stunning, and somehow the reality is even better. The resort is absolutely breathtaking, with a secluded location that creates a true sense of peace and escape. Every detail of the property feels thoughtfully designed, and the accommodations are both unique and incredibly welcoming.
The service is genuinely five-star. Every member of the team made us feel cared for without ever being intrusive. From the drivers and concierge to the front desk, dining and bar staff, spa team, gym staff, and housekeeping, everyone was warm, attentive, and professional. Their hospitality elevated an already extraordinary experience.
The views are unforgettable, the food is consistently delicious, and the overall atmosphere is one of relaxation, beauty, and understated luxury.
If you’re looking for a place to truly disconnect, recharge, and experience exceptional hospitality in an extraordinary setting, Calilo is everything it promises to be—and more. We left with wonderful memories and can’t wait to return.

Five days of luxury, love, and absolute relaxation like in "Cast Away."
We experienced five unforgettable days in this wonderful place.
The Calilo does not reveal itself immediately; it is discovered gradually... From the entrance to the beach, every single detail is meticulously planned, and nothing is left to chance. There are millions of details to admire.
We want to emphasize that this is not a luxury for its own sake or ostentatious; it is true luxury, beautifully combined with love and simplicity.
The incredible feeling is that of being in the movie "Cast Away," but surrounded by this unique atmosphere: the spaces are specifically designed to allow you to enjoy great solitude, absolute privacy, and total relaxation.
The sea is simply spectacular, within a bay that truly seems to be designed by the Lord. Completing the experience are an excellent restaurant, a rich and delicious breakfast, and an extraordinarily kind staff that always makes you feel welcome. A highly recommended dream.

A vacation of a lifetime
OMG what an incredible stay! If I could give this resort 100 stars - I would. We loved everything about it. Our suite, the incredible view, the amenities, the hotel’s facilities, the spa - they just thought of everything. Also - the food, the drinks - fantastic. We’re both vegans and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and accommodate our every request (even off menu requests). The vegan burger was an absolute delight. They also made us pasta with coconut cream per our request, and surprised us with a delicious spinach pie to take with us for the ride home. Vegans - you would love it here! The service is just top notch! Everyone at the Calilo is so nice and accommodating. A big shout out to Joana, Maro, Stephan and Yanis - who made our stay so extra special. This was a dream come true! Thank you so much for everything!

Not worth the Money
Unfortunately our Stay at Calilo Hotel was quite a disappointment. It does not match the 5 Star Hotel rating at all and does not hold up to the expectations it sets online.
I gave 2 Stars for the two only redeeming qualities of the Hotel: The Staff and the Artistic Vision.
⭐ The Staff is very professional and yet warm and familiar, attentive and eager to make the stay as pleasing as possible- though we were quite irritated that our „private“ terrace was accessed by staff for maintenance in the morning hours while in full view of our bedroom.
⭐ The artistic vision that went into the design of the main body of the Hotel with beautiful Shadow Play, Stone Mosaics and Statues, as well as the affirmations of Life and Joy are inspiring.
Our main sore points are the food, the beach, the general state of the hotel, the supposed amenities in contrast with what is lacking, and the overall value for money.
❌ As the Hotel is very remote and transfer costs 85 Euro per trip we had a chance to sample the Breakfast, the Restaurant Lunch & Dinner as well as the beach front service. The fine dining restaurant was apparently damaged over the winter and closed for construction.
The breakfast was fine, the limited selection at the buffet is aided a bit with the included a la carte options. Unfortunately the Kitchen is not operating at the culinary level expected of a 5 star hotel at all- simple dishes like scrambled and poached eggs came over salted or undercooked ( multiple occasions).
The Lunch we had at the beach came completely cold ( yet the beach is 100 meters from the restaurant) which is odd for a grilled octopus. The portions were small and expensive and nothing special flavor wise.
The main restaurant has a very limited amount of dishes on offer, the fish of the day was the same everyday and while the greek primary ingredients do a lot of heavy lifting, everything we had was fine at best, yet came with a very hefty price tag. To compare two dinners, we had 3 Dishes, 1 Cocktail, 1 Bottle of Wine and 2 Bottles of water at Calilo for 450 Euro but 8 Dishes, 1 Cocktail, 1 Bottle of Wine, 2 bottle of water for only 220 Euro at an outside Taverna. And the Food at the Taverna was smashing.
❌ To the general state of the Hotel, the shortcuts in construction are evident, while the bathroom is all marble the fixtures are very cheap, caulking obvious, and upon arrival we were dissuaded from using the bathtub ( online a selling point for the room we chose). Another selling point of the room we chose was the supposed beach view. Unfortunately the Hotel has chosen to block this view with additional Beach Bungalows, when there is plenty of other space available.
Camilo should consider adding more wooden pathways at the beach as well as from the Beachfront suites to the Hotel as the 20 meters of walk over pebble make it seem like you’re sneaking around the back when you are moving inside the hotel.
❌ The beach, while the water is gorgeous, calm and crystal clear, is not Sand but rough Pebbles with an extremely steep drop from shallow into deep water. It is not easy to exit the water, as the Pebbles are vry uncomfortable. This would definitely be an accessibility concern for people with limited mobility and children ( though the Hotel aims to seem family friendly). Its does affect the beach experience of any user.
❌ As the Hotel is very remote it would have been nice to include transfer to the Port in the Hotel stay at least or offer some Shuttles to Guests. Charging 85 Euro per trip is very steep and discourages you from exploring anything outside the Hotel. If the Amenities at the Hotel were of better quality this would probably be less obvious. The Boat access is not used for Boat Taxis, the Hotel is only willing to organize a 4 hour boat tour at 1000 Euros.
Overall this stay was not worth the money we spent there and we will not be coming back to this Hotel. You can have a better experience on Ios Island for 1/10th of the price.

A paradise on earth a dream setting where every detail amazes a postcard beach and oasis-worthy room
At Calilo, time stands still.
Between turquoise sea and golden stones, every corner whispers soft words – love, smile – and proverbs carved into the rock. Everything is natural, shaped to soothe the soul and amaze the eyes.
The beach, nestled in its secret cove, offers a softly dancing mattress and swing beds caressed by the breeze.
The room... a sanctuary: glittering pools, soothing waterfall, huge beds where you forget the world.
I have travelled to Bali, Mexico, Japan, Mauritius, Maldives... but I have never met a place that so gracefully marries beauty, serenity and soul.
