Good hotel next to ski lifts
The four of us stayed here in a biggish room after Christmas for a few days. The view was very good, onto the mountains, we had a bath. The breakfast was excellent, every morning they served freshly baked bread, cakes, fresh vegetables, many kinds of cheese& ham, smoked salmon, fried eggs, fruits, etc. etc. Coffee and tea in a lot of varieties.
The wellness was very good: steam, Finnish and infra saunas, clean.
Our only problem was that one of the double beds, which was a pull-out sofay was far too small for 2 adult children of ours, and a comfortable matrass would have made sleeping more comfortable for them..as it was, they could not sleep well at nights! But the hotel charged a full price for this kind of beds.

Great Location Poor attitude
Clean large rooms great location The food was good and plentifull,but the attitude of the owner and the majority of the staff was very very poor in fact rude .Beware we were also charged 3 euros for a carraffe of TAP water unbelievable.

Poor Service, just adequate!
We arrived in April this year for a family and friends skiing holiday. It was the end of the season and there had been complications with which hotel we would stay in; We had originally booked Hotel Wagner, their sister hotel, but with mistakes made on both sides we got an apartment in the Samson last minute.
We found the room to be slightly dated, clean(ish), but there were stains of the walls and generally not much attention to detail or care in presentation.
The service I found to be very rude at times. My friend and I walked into the Hotel Wagner just to enquire a few things and the owner Frau Wagner simply said closed and gave us a gesture to leave. Personally I found that quite unacceptable- yes the hotel was closed but the fact she didn't offer to help, particularly as she was getting money from us through Hotel Samson. In fact the only time I saw her being remotely pleasant was when we paid at the end!
Breakfast was good- very enjoyable! The location of the hotel is excellent and the Ski school bus picked us up outside the hotel. A swimming pool would be welcome break after the slopes but the Wagner was closed. Steam room and Sauna were the next best thing and were perfect for just simply relaxing!
There were also plenty of restaurants nearby, but we seemed to favour one in particular which was directly opposite our hotel- Hotel Zehnerkar which had fantastic food!! We pretty much went for dinner their every night simply because we wanted to try everything on the menu; we were not disappointed and the service was friendly every time! Would strongly recommend Hotel Zehnerkar for dining and service, and doing it again I would undoubtedly choose to stay there!!
Skiing is not a cheap activity and when you go away, everyone wants it to be perfect, but this wasn't the case! Not all members part of the hotel were impolite, it was just a few exceptions. I warn against this complex as we found there are other places with a far better atmosphere and service.

Hotel Wagner - Generally Good
The Wagner has a good location being very central to Obertauern - and also close to a couple of ski-schools (the closest being Willi Grillitsch skischule and Skischule TOP). There are lifts nearby and you can ski back to the hotel (blue run 14).
The room was a little dated but had everything you need including a TV (only German speaking channels - but there is a good one dedicated to Obertauern itself which shows live footage from cameras out on the piste) - a phone, tea and coffee making facilities and of course an en-suite bathroom.
The spa is excellent and must have been a recent addition, with a pool and jacuzzi (which is part of the pool and thus at the same water temperature). There's also several showers, a sauna, a steam-room and a small gym. My only complaint would be the water was a little cold in the pool.
The food was generally excellent with a buffet breakfast with a wide variety of foods, and a four-course meal most nights. Service was efficient, but could have been a little friendlier at times.
My only other minor gripe is with the wi-fi access. The hotel has free wi-fi which worked fine for the first few days, and was very useful for checking the weather for the next day. However, it then inexplicably stopped working - I could see the network but couldn't connect. I asked a younger member of staff and didn't get a useful response, so I asked the owner about it and all she could provide was nonchalant shrug of the shoulders. This was quite annoying and frustrating.
All in all a good hotel, in a good location.

Simple lodgings, great position
The Aparthotel Samson is a large apartment block opposite the owning hotel Samson. The rooms are large, clean, and have plenty of hot water, but ours had no bath. The reception is large and you often have to use the phone link to the Samson hotel to get a member of staff to come and see you. Breakfast is served in a small room upstairs, and is good (cold meats/cheese, fruit, yoghurt etc). There is a good boot/ski room, and a quiet sauna downstairs.
You can use the Hotel Samsons pool for a small fee, but we found it too cold and a lot of the extra features (steam room/jacuzzi) didn't work. The position is great, and the ski shop near the entrance have very friendly staff and good ski rental rates. The Lively Lurtzer Bar and bottom of the main piste is 5 minutes walk away, and the nearest lift is less then 5 mins over the road.
