HK Express recently upgraded its services by introducing online check-in, available on both your computer and mobile phone. Online check-in is available between 90 minutes and 48 hours before your scheduled flight departure. To check-in online, key in your booking reference number and your last name to retrieve the booking. This service is currently only available for flights departing from Hong Kong. With your self-printed or mobile boarding pass, you can proceed straight to Immigration if you have no check-in baggage, or check-in your luggage at the Bag Drop counter. For those traveling to Hong Kong International Airport via the Airport Express (AEL), you may also check-in at Hong Kong or Kowloon MTR stations using the In-Town Check-In service. This service is available from 90 minutes to 24 hours before your flight, from 5.30am onwards.

Check-in baggage is an add-on item for HK Express. Prices for pre-booked baggage are HKD150 for 20kg, HKD200 for 25kg, and HKD250 for 30kg. It is significantly cheaper to purchase check-in baggage online compared to buying it at the airport. For example, the price for 0-20kg of check-in baggage at HK Express airport counters starts at HKD365. Excess baggage charges apply. Passengers may bring standard-sized carry-on baggage not exceeding 7kg. If you wish to add check-in baggage to your booking, you may do so by contacting the HK Express call center up to 3 hours before the scheduled flight departure. However, there will be a service charge of HKD100 for every transaction. Check-in baggage can also be purchased at the check-in counter, but at a higher price.

HK Express seats typically have a 28-inch seat pitch and are 17-inch wide. Seats with Extra Legroom are available at an additional fee of HKD160 per passenger from the HK Express website, through the reservation hotline, or at the check-in counter. As seats with extra legroom are located near emergency exit doors, they are only available to passengers who meet the exit row seat safety requirements. You can also purchase seats at the front of the aircraft (Upfront Seats) at HKD100. For standard seats, it will cost you HKD30 if you wish to select seats, but there will be no charge if the airline assigns a seat to you. For adults traveling with an infant less than 2 years old, do note that you will be required to pay a fee of HKD120 per guest if the infant is held in the adult’s lap.

HK Express does not permit any origin or destination flight changes, transfer of a ticket to another person, and cancellations or refunds. Changes to date or time of the flight will incur a charge of HKD580, along with extra charges for fare differences. Do ensure that your name is correctly reflected on your flight booking, as name corrections will cost HKD350. Other standard taxes and surcharges apply depending on the departure port. As of 27 October 2013, HK Express is no longer a member of the Fortune Wings Club frequent-flyer program. Passengers cannot earn miles on HK Express flights, but are allowed to redeem miles to pay for these flights.

Similar to other low-cost carriers, there is no complimentary service onboard. Hot and cold meals, drinks, and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. The meals are generally Hong Kong or Asian cuisine, and every meal comes with a bottle of water. If you are planning to have an in-flight meal, it is cheaper to pre-book and get a special online rate. HK Express does not allow outside food and beverages to be consumed on the flight.

Sometimes known as Hong Kong’s ‘most on-time airline’, HK Express has a good track record in terms of the number of on-time flights. However, passengers are advised to monitor their flight status to check for any delays.
